React Logo

This is an older post but Jules Blom’s incredible interactive blog post around the React timeline lifecycle with hooks is worth sharing with every React engineer. The React documentation tries to keep you from thinking in the term of a “timeline” but Jules makes the great point that knowing and understanding the control flow of a component allows you to write more efficient components.

Once upon a time, I was a React Engineer at Zappos.com. Before that, I was more familiar with VueJS from my previous role, so I really cut my teeth on React while navigating the Zappos codebase. It was as complex as it was fascinating, with intricate component interactions that at times were difficult to dissect. Looking back, I would have found this post incredibly helpful during those early days.

Enough blathering out of me. Click on the tweet above or the direct link: https://julesblom.com/writing/react-hook-component-timeline

As a bonus in the post I thought the quiz was a nice touch. It was fun to take.
